| For Immediate Release Legacy Foundation Grant Awards for Summer 2008 Lake County, Indiana (June 30, 2008) The Legacy Foundation Board of Directors approved grants totaling $125,920 for the following projects: Metropolitan Planning Council - $20,000 from the Lake County Community Fund to launch a sustainable employer-assisted housing (EAH) program for Northwest Indiana. American Red Cross of Northwest Indiana Chapter - $25,000 from the Lake County Community Fund to purchase Disaster Communications Equipment including a radio base station, mobile vehicle stations, hand-held radios, and repeaters. Boy Scouts Calumet Council - $4,160 from the Lake County Community Fund for program materials for the fall 2008 membership drive. Northshore Health Centers - $25,000 from the Lake County Community Fund for the purchase of 5 dental exam chairs for the new Dental Facility located in Lake Station, IN. This facility will provide dental services for Medicaid patients, children, and low income families that are unable to afford treatment at other locations. Referral & Emergency Services - $1,760 from the Lake County Community Fund for the purchase of banquet tables and chairs to support meal service for homeless individuals. Challenger Learning Center - $20,000 from the Lake County Community Fund for technology upgrades including NASA-TV and software for the planetarium. Portage Adult Education - $10,000 first installment of a $30,000, three year commitment from the Lake County Community Fund to support the creation of a strategic plan for the sustainability of the program. Groundwork Gary - $10,000 from the John S. and James L. Knight Donor Advised Fund to support two education and community outreach initiative; Green Teams, a program that engages middle and high school youth in community based environmental projects and Gardenwork Gary, a grassroots community gardening initiative. The Salvation Army - $10,000 from the John S. and James L. Knight Donor Advised Fund to support a web-based after school tutorial program serving students in grades one through eight who are operating below grade level in the areas of reading, writing, and math.
